ISHS – SCHOOL BUS SERVICES REMINDERS
FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Carers
Term 2 seems to be flying by, accelerated by four public holidays in the first five weeks, interspersed with a busy calendar of school events and activities.
ANZAC Day
During Week 1 ISHS staff and students remembered ANZAC Day. On Wednesday 23 April we held the ISHS 2025 ANZAC Commemorative Service in the Hall. It was a truly special occasion, with outstanding attendance from VIP guests across all levels of government, members of the RSL, and both serving and former Defence Force personnel. The service was made even more memorable by the stirring presence of the bagpipes and a deeply moving address by our Defence Mentor, Ange Crighton, who shared a personal account of her time in the Army. Her story provided students with a powerful connection to the significance of ANZAC Day, 110 years after the landing at Gallipoli.
On ANZAC Day staff and students attended the RSL Railway Sub-branch service at the Qld Museum Railway Workshop. It was another moving service and our School Captain, Elizabeth Hargraves, provided solo vocals to singing Abide with Me and the Australian and New Zealand Anthems. Later on Friday, staff and students participate in the Ipswich RSL March and Ceremony.
I would like to extend special thanks to the many staff who contributed to making our commemorations so successful:
- Ange Crighton for leading the organisation of the ISHS ceremony and supporting the Brassall SS ceremony by coordinating and supporting our cadets to participate.
- The Hospitality staff, April Crawter and Tina Gilroy, and the Hospitality students for preparing a sumptuous morning tea for our invited guests.
- Sabrina Goodingham for creating a beautiful ANZAC video that highlighted the connections of ISHS staff and community members to past and present service men and women (https://www.facebook.com/IpswichSHS/videos/3140803322763362)
- Aaron Maile, Kelly Cox, and Tanya McKenna for representing ISHS at the Ipswich RSL March and supporting our students.
The collective efforts of staff and students ensured that the ISHS community honoured the ANZAC spirit with the respect and dignity it deserves.
Dance Excellence Program Shining
On Thursday 1 May, at Ipswich Combined Teachers Dance Festival, 80 Year 7-12 dancers led by Amy Ross and Hayley Else competed at the Ipswich Combined Teachers Dance Festival in 14 performances for their first competition of the year. In sections of up to 16 competitors they received three Highly Commended awards, one Very Highly Commended award and one 2nd place.
Our Senior Dancers (Years 10-12) received the Most Promising Group award.
In the presentation of awards at the end of the evening the convenors of the competition spoke extremely highly of the sportsmanship of the Ipswich State High School students and publicly recognised their polite and kind attitudes as well as their support for all the other teams competing.
Rugby League Program Launch Night
On Monday 12 May we hosted local members of parliament and council together with our highly valued sponsors to hold the 2025 Rugby League Program Season Launch. Boys and Girls Program Coaches, Josh Bretherton and Alex Nicholson gave fantastic speeches to show case their Boys and Girls teams and programs. Josh also did a fabulous job of interviewing our special guest and ex-student, Kulikefu Finefeuiaki. The shining star for the night was Shane Harris who was brilliant as the MC for the event.
Multicultural Night
The Annual Ipswich SHS Multicultural Night was held on Tuesday 20 May and it was a truly spectacular celebration of the rich cultural diversity that defines our school community. With over 40 cultural backgrounds represented in our school, the evening was filled with vibrant performances, heartfelt storytelling, and a strong sense of unity and pride. From traditional dances and music to delicious cultural cuisine, every element of the night showcased the incredible talent and spirit of our students. A sincere thank you goes to the dedicated staff who made the event possible—particularly Tash Anderson and the Indigenous Support Hub staff, Rosa Tuiga and Joseph Kaara —whose tireless efforts in preparing students and coordinating performances ensured the night was a resounding success. Your commitment and care helped create an unforgettable experience for all.
Respectful Communication with School Staff
At Ipswich State High School, we are committed to fostering a safe and respectful learning environment for all members of our school community. We remind parents and carers of the importance of engaging with our staff in a calm, courteous, and respectful manner at all times. Working together with mutual respect allows us to best support the wellbeing and success of every student. We thank our families for upholding these shared expectations.

ISHS UNIFORM REMINDERS

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As we move further into Term 2 and the weather continues to cool, we have noticed an increase in students wearing non-approved jumpers. We would like to take this opportunity to remind families of our uniform policy and the importance of students wearing the correct Ipswich State High School jumper.
Please note that wearing non-approved jumpers is a breach of our uniform policy and may result in a detention being issued.
To help reduce negative interactions and maintain positive relationships between staff and students, we kindly ask that you check your child’s uniform is complete and accessible each day.
Wearing the correct uniform fosters a sense of pride, belonging, and a consistent school identity. Approved school jumpers also provide students with a standard level of warmth and comfort during the colder months.
To support families, Ipswich State High School jumpers are available for purchase from the Uniform Shop during the following hours:
Uniform Shop Operating Hours
• Monday Tuesday: 8:15 am – 8:45 am
• Friday: 8:00 am – 9:00 am
Orders on QKR
Returning Borrowed Uniform Items
If your child has borrowed a uniform item (such as shorts) from Uniform Exchange, we ask that it be returned that day or the next morning. These items are limited and are provided on a short-term basis to support students in need. Prompt return ensures other students can also access this support when required.
We are sending out reminder messages to all parents/guardians whose students have outstanding loans from uniform exchange. Some students have more than 1 item unreturned.
We appreciate your ongoing support in ensuring students wear the correct uniform each day. If you have any questions regarding uniform requirements, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Thank you for your cooperation in upholding our school expectations.
ISHS REMINDER SCHOOL DROP OFF’S

A reminder that for the safety of our students and staff, there are no before and after school drop-offs or pick-ups permitted within the school grounds, via the Hunter Street entrance or the back gate, unless there is an approved exemption is in place.

We thank you for your assistance with this.

P & C Association Voluntary Contributions
Our P & C Association would like to invite all parents to come along to our monthly meetings.
We meet last Thursday of the month from 7.30am to 8.30am in the school administration with the Principal.

The Committee gives valuable feedback on school policy including the Uniform policy, Student Resource Scheme fees and charges.
Last year we were successful in grant applications for additional school resources including musical instruments.
We invite members of our school community to join us in our fundraising activities – Election BBQ through serving or baking or perhaps assisting with our raffle at concerts throughout the year.
If you are unable to join us or assist in our fundraising activities, we would ask that you consider donating $20 to assist in our valuable work in 2025.
You will find on the QKR a P & C Donation option where you could make a payment.
Thank you for helping us to provide further resources for the school to benefit our children’s learning experience.
