FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Carers
As Term 3 draws to a close, I feel very settled in my role as Acting Principal of Ipswich SHS. I am proud of the tangible progress we are making to ensure that Ipswich SHS is the school of choice for families in Ipswich. Our community is one where every student can find their place to belong, achieve their potential, and grow into the productive citizens of the future.
SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS
School Musical – Rewind: Playback
Our 2025 school musical, Rewind: Playback, was a powerful, student-written and student-performed production that explored themes of identity, connection, and the stories we inherit. Audiences were treated to an uplifting and thought-provoking performance that truly showcased the creativity, talent, and dedication of our students. Congratulations to the cast, crew, and staff who supported the production—you should be incredibly proud of what you achieved.
Your Turn Choreography Competition
Our dancers took centre stage in the annual Your Turn Choreography Competition, presenting original works that impressed the judges and captivated the audience. This event gave students the opportunity to showcase their creativity, technical ability, and passion for dance in a supportive and professional environment.
Hair and Beauty Showcase
This week our Year 11 and 12 students studying Certificates in Nails, Hair and Beauty delivered a stunning Hair and Beauty Showcase. Guests were treated to polished demonstrations of cutting, styling, colouring, and nail artistry at industry standard. It was a proud moment to see the professionalism and skill of our senior students on display.
Book Week
Book Week was embraced with enthusiasm across the school, with students and staff dressing up as their favourite characters. The day created a vibrant celebration of reading and storytelling, and reminded us of the power of books to inspire imagination and connection.
R U OK? Day
In Week 9 we paused to mark R U OK? Day. Students and staff took time to check in on one another and to reinforce the message that a simple conversation can make a real difference. It was heartening to see our community prioritising wellbeing and connection.
FACILITIES UPDATE
Grandstands Top Oval – over the holidays our new grandstands will be installed around the top oval. We acknowledge the support of the Queensland State Government in enabling us to fund this exciting enhancement to the oval.
New Multipurpose Hall – Our fortnightly planning meetings have come to an end, and we have a plan for our new multipurpose hall ready for approval by the state government. We look forward to sharing artist impressions of the hall early in Term 4. Work is due to commence on the hall in 2026, with completion expected in mid-2027.
STAFF UPDATE
Earlier this term we said farewell to Mr Jeremy Herron, Humanities Teacher, who has left Ipswich SHS to pursue an opportunity to study in London. Today we farewell Mr Ed McDonnell who has worked at ISHS as a Trade Trainer and Trade Teacher. Ed is heading back to the tools but we hope to see him back at Ipswich SHS in the years ahead.
LOOKING AHEAD – TERM 4
Term 4 will be an exciting and rewarding conclusion to the school year. Preparations are already underway for our Annual Awards Presentation Night on Wednesday 22 October, where we will come together to celebrate the achievements of our students across academic, cultural, sporting, and community domains.

ISHS UNIFORM REMINDERS

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We have noticed an increase in students wearing the correct school uniform. We would like to take this opportunity to remind families of our uniform policy and the importance of students wearing the correct Ipswich State High School uniform.
Please note that wearing non-approved jumpers is a breach of our uniform policy and may result in a detention being issued.
To help reduce negative interactions and maintain positive relationships between staff and students, we kindly ask that you check your child’s uniform is complete and accessible each day.
Wearing the correct uniform fosters a sense of pride, belonging, and a consistent school identity. Approved school jumpers also provide students with a standard level of warmth and comfort during the colder months.
Students in speciality subject must also wear approved uniforms. Hair fashion and styling student are allowed to wear black work pants – No tights or Lorna Jane pants. Dance students are allowed to wear tights only on their eisteddfod days.
To support families, Ipswich State High School jumpers are available for purchase from the Uniform Shop during the following hours:

We appreciate your ongoing support in ensuring students wear the correct uniform each day. If you have any questions regarding uniform requirements, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

ISHS NEW DEFENCE MENTOR

Hello, I’m Kayla Lawson!
I’m excited to join the team as the new Defence Transition Mentor. My role is to support Defence personnel and their families through the transition process, ensuring they have access to the resources, guidance, and assistance they need for a smooth and successful experience. I’m passionate about helping people navigate change with confidence, and I’m here to answer any questions or concerns you might have. I looking forward to working with you and being part of your journey.
I spent 6 years serving in the Royal Australian Air Force before deciding to pursue my passion in psychology. During my time in service, I had the opportunity to travel both domestically and internationally, live across the country, and participate in unique events, including the Sydney Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Much of my Defence career was spent at No. 1 Squadron in Amberley, where I had the privilege to maintain the F/A-18F Super Hornets and work alongside incredible people.
I have firsthand experience with the Defence lifestyle. I am familiar with sudden relocations, spontaneous deployments, and managing long-term injuries. I understand the unique challenges that Defence members face daily and I am committed to utilising my experience to support you, your family, and the wider Ipswich State High community.
I have a psychology and counselling background, which I believe gives me the tools to offer support in both Defence-related and broader mental health contexts. My main goal is to foster a sense of belonging for young people, especially defence children.
I am excited to be part of this community and I encourage you to reach out. I look forward to meeting you. You can find me in Room HC13 or contact me via email at klaws100@eq.edu.au.

Just check your monthly statement as you would have already been invoiced for these.

Once they have redeemed their points, they can pay any balance for the formal and/or mystery tour. As the finance window will be extra busy leading up to the formal, QKR and BPoint would be the quickest and most convenient way to pay.
