23 June 2023

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

As we round out another term, and you become 100% responsible for your student[s] for the next fortnight, it is time to remind you of a few things.

  • Semester reports will be available early next term, and you should use these to determine whether you should seek an appointment with one or more teachers at the Parent-Teacher interviews scheduled for Tuesday 18th July – we would welcome your attendance
  • If you have a child in Year 6, and are expecting to enrol them here @ISH for Year 7 next year, keep an eye out for the dates and times of our Enrolment Sessions, and get in early
  • The days will start to get longer from now on, and hopefully the reduction in darkness will be accompanied by an increase in warmth
  • Our attendance and uniform expectations have not changed, and nor have our expectations linked to them – please let us know if your student is absent, and remind them to visit the Uniform Exchange if they are unable to wear the correct school uniform for any reason
  • If you have created a payment plan for your school fees, please remember to keep it going so that your child[ren] have the opportunity to participate in any rewards days when their attendance and grades make them eligible; one further eligibility criterion is being up-to-date with school fees
  • If your child[ren] is in Year 11, please encourage them to think of becoming a senior leader in 2024 – the process will start mid-term
  • Access to the carpark is changing over the school holidays and entry to those allowed on site will be a left turn just after the groundsman’s shed

Finally, I hope you have an opportunity to spend time with your child[ren] during the school holiday; many of them are quite remarkable young people who are fully committed to their future.  Encourage them to take a breath, smell the roses, catch up with friends as friends and not just work colleagues, and take some time to reflect.  Remember, they can’t change the past, but they can certainly learn from it and perhaps create a different future.

Happy holiday.

Simon Riley
Executive Principal

ISHS FINANCE NEWS - FINAL 2023 SRS INSTALMENT PAYMENT

Reminding parents and/or caregivers that the due date for the 2023 Student Resource Scheme is the 23 June. If you are paying by instalments, it is $125 for years 7-9 and $75 for years 10-12. If you are paying the fees in full, years 7-9 is $350 and 10-12 is $250. You can also refer to your latest monthly statement that was sent out on Thursday for the balance that is owing for your child.

During term 3, students will begin to look at their specialist subject options for 2024. To secure your child’s place in their chosen subject, the fee for that subject as well as all outstanding fees is due by Thursday 16th November 2023. Where 2023 Subject fees and SRS remain unpaid on your child’s account, your child may then need to choose a non-fee paying subjects for 2024. Please contact the finance office on finance@ipswichshs@eq.edu.au if you would like to set up a payment plan or if you have any queries. For those subjects with a higher cost, starting a payment plan now will certainly take the burden off household finances. We are happy to explain and help you with a payment plan.

It is anticipated that the device will have a three (3) year life at school and as such will continue to be a vital tool in your student's learning continuing in Year 11 and Year 12.

As a courtesy, all of our families who have students in these year levels have been contacted to discuss requirements.

UBER RULES FOR PEOPLE UNDER THE AGE OF 18

You must be 18 years or older to have an Uber account. This means that you must be at least 18 years old to ride unaccompanied in a vehicle. Account holders can’t request a ride or delivery for someone under the age of 18 who will not be accompanied by either the account holder or another adult during the ride or when collecting the delivery. When ordering food, children are also not allowed to use an adult’s Uber Eats account by themselves. These age limitations apply unless our local guidelines, terms, or other policies say otherwise.

If, as a driver or delivery person, you notice at pickup or delivery that your rider or Uber Eats user looks under 18, you can decline the trip or delivery and report it to Uber. Refusing or cancelling a trip or delivery on this basis will not impact your driver or delivery partner rating.

When ordering items, children are also not allowed to use an adult’s Uber Eats account by themselves. All deliveries to schools should be made through the school reception, unless otherwise directed by the school.

Consequently, we will not accept Uber deliveries or pickups for any student.
